The Word This Week – THE WORLD IS CRYING OUT FOR PEACE

12 Jan 2015 by Reverend Dr Jai Kumar -

Have you ever wondered how much of effort and time have been deployed all over the world trying to achieve peace? But unfortunately very little have been achieved despite all the negotiations and effort. And the cry for world peace is a question that is hanging over many nations today.

Individually as well, man is chasing for peace in his life. I suppose he is willing to pay any price but yet he is not finding it because he is looking for it in the wrong place.

Peace is a calm quite assurance and confidence that no matter what is happening around you the God of the universe has not lost control.

Jesus said: In Me you may have peace” (John 16:33). Jesus also told His disciples, “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful” (John 14:27).

Peace with God depends upon how deep and strong, our level of relationship goes with Him. Until a person receives Jesus Christ as personal Savior, he or she will have no genuine peace. Some people may experience happiness outside of God that may last only for a while but to experience the kind of deep inner stillness of peace that endures indefinitely can only be attained by that genuine fellowship with God.

The Hebrew word for peace is ‘Shalom’, which encompasses every aspect of our lives! Prosperity, health, balance, besides the total gift of grace through the finished work of CHRIST on the Cross.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philip 4:7). The wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure and full of quiet gentleness. Then it is peace-loving and courteous. It allows discussion, has a teachable spirit, willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy, compassion and good deeds. It is whole-hearted, straightforward and sincere. And those who are peace makers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of goodness (James 3:17-18).

THE ENEMY IS AFTER YOUR PEACE

Many of us are ignorant of the fact that there is so much power in peace. When you have peace it’s like you have a hedge build around you to protect you. But the fact of the matter is that the Bible says, there is nowhere you will find peace except in Jesus. So when you have Jesus you are bestowed with the grace of God. Grace is everything that you literally need in order to function harmoniously and peacefully in this life. It’s the sustaining power that will carry you through from one level to another no matter what your circumstances may be.

Have you ever discovered that the first territory the enemy wants to take over is your ‘peace’ because that’s the seat of your power that keeps you healthy and well, protected and safe!

The devil is all out to get you upset and the only way he could do it is by stealing your peace. The moment he succeeds, he can get you off-balanced and make you run in circles. Then he will sit back and smile all the way through.

ANGER IS A TOOL THE ENEMY USES TO MAKE YOU LOSE YOUR PEACE

The enemy is like a person who throws a stone at you and hides behind a tree so that he can trigger the anger in you. The moment you lose your peace anger sets in.

Eph. 4:26

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath,”

How do you manage your anger?  You know what? Anger is not a sin; but not managing it is!  The Bible says, “Anger resides in the lap of fools” (Ecc 7:9).

One thought of school says, the reason why we get mad at someone, it’s because we obviously care for that person! We care for that situation! Otherwise, we wouldn’t let someone know how you feel if you didn’t care for them. I wonder how of you would agree with this thought.

But you know what? We fail to understand something! We fail to understand how to express our feelings in ways that would bring better results. Instead of yelling at someone who has gone wrong and struggling in their problems, we need to explain the consequences and try to help them get out of it. You will win them by attraction and not by pressure! But on the other hand you also need to have the kind of wisdom to be able to recognize that there are things you can’t control, like other people’s actions and attitudes.

THE DEVIL WANTS TO GET YOU OUT OF THE WILL OF GOD

Not only does anger harm you, it’s also satan’s strategy for getting you out of the will of God. That’s why Paul said, “Be angry but don’t stay angry.”

“But I have a reason to be angry,” you say!!  So did Joseph, yet he fed those who imprisoned him! And blessed those who betrayed him! In so doing, he prospered and was set free from his anger! Your prosperity! Your blessing! Your miracle! Your favor and well-being rest within your power to walk in God’s will: That’s His standard! That’s His way! It’s one thing to be angry; it’s another to sound off at the wrong time.

Remember ,

A fool uttereth all his mind but a wise man keepth it till the end (Prov. 29:11)

Listen! Next time you get all worked up! You get angry! Ask yourself, “What is the enemy trying to do here?” So often we justify ourselves and say, “I have a reason to be angry!”. “I have a reason to be upset!”. You know what? When you are angry, when you are upset, that’s when he takes control of your life and manipulates you further. He will use your weakness to promote his agenda to conquer you. That’s where you lose your joy! And when you lose your joy, you will sink into another level by losing your strength. Because the joy of the Lord is your strength! (Nehemiah 8:9)

Proverbs 14:16

A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless .

Discouraged-Man

Ref: blogspot

People who have outburst of anger actually have a spirit of rejection. They have rage in them and many times they can’t control their anger. They are very explosive and fierce. They will either hit the opponent or hit anything around. That’s why when you enter their living environment you will notice a lot of damages around. You will be surprised that people with anger and rage will demonstrate supernatural strength and that is a “Demonised spirit.”  That’s a spirit of anger and rage that enters into a person and controls you BECAUSE OF A SPIRIT OF REJECTION INSIDE THEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN SERIOUSLY DELT WITH IN THEIR LIFE.

A FORGIVING HEART BRINGS PROSPERITY TO YOUR LIFE

Remember the life of Joseph. He fed those who imprisoned and abused him. He blessed those who betrayed him. You know what? In so doing, he prospered and was favoured by God to BECOME SECOND IN COMMAND OF A NATION AND A CIVILIZATION THAT WAS SO ADVANCED IN HISTORY, a level he could hardly imagine! Joseph had a forgiving heart! Joseph controlled his emotions! And he was set free from his anger and revenge over his own brothers.

You just need to learn how to express your feelings in a more productive way that will not hinder God’s blessing and favour, which can only flow into your life when you can dwell in PEACE.

Dreaming Together for the New Year

$

13 Jan 2015 -

The beginning of a new year can be a testing time for couples. She’s on a new diet; he’s polishing off leftover holiday food. She’s eyeing the post-Christmas sales; he’s shredding credit cards after opening the bills from their holiday purchases.

Counsellors – and our own experience – say much marital conflict stems from competing expectations and priorities. Though often unspoken, expectations drive each spouse’s agenda, leading to a wreck when they aren’t aligned.

Start the year off right

Get the year off to a good start by taking a retreat together. We started this tradition eight years ago; now we depend on it. Our partnership deepens each year as we re-evaluate priorities and dream together about what the plan for our lives in the year ahead is.

Ref: chobirdokan@wordpress

For several years, we went to a family-owned cottage on a lake. Other times, we’ve hired a babysitter and went for coffee together for several hours. The important thing is getting uninterrupted time – as a couple – to focus on shared expectations and priorities for the year.

Partnership and priorities

That first retreat, we tackled really big plans, including buying a house and getting pregnant. Fulfilling those dreams motivated us to dream more – till we found ourselves making long lists of resolutions that proved tough to keep.

Ref: thenypost@wordpress

An insight we read from C.S. Lewis challenged our approach. When it comes to prioritizing, he wrote that there are only three things to be done:

  1. the ought-to-dos
  2. the have-to-dos
  3. the like-to-dos.

Now we use Lewis’ categories to guide our priorities. For ought-to-dos, we ask “What should we be doing?” Our answers have included loving each other more, nurturing our kids, volunteering, eating less and exercising more.

Next we consider have-to-dos – everything from organizing paperwork for taxes to handling house and car maintenance. We write these down to ensure they get done.

Ref: allume

The joy is moving on to like-to-dos. We ask, “What do we love to do together?” We enjoy reading, having friends over for dinner and going to the movies. We also consider our family time. Going on hikes, playing games, visiting the park, taking swimming lessons – these top the list.

Once you make your own list of things you should do, have to do and like to do, then guard them. Put them on your to-do list and calendar first, before less important things crowd them out.

The power of routine

hug-day1

Ref: chobirdokan@wordpress

For all the power of partnership and priorities, your efforts to dream up a new year together will be short-lived if they don’t become part of your routine. This goes for date nights, family dinners, personal time, exercise time, car and house maintenance, everything. If you stick with it, your priorities will become habits and your goals will become reality.

Next year, that power of routine may motivate you to head off again to review the past year – and dream up another year together.

Debt – Avoid what is Potentially Avoidable

$
0
0

14 Jan 2015 by Kim Yung CM-

Jesus came to set us free so that we will no longer be slaves to anyone, and so that we are no longer slaves to anything. According to the Bible, God want us to be debt free.

No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. (Matthew 6:24)

Ref: playingasian

In this day and age, where there are all sorts of advertising by the media, it is tempting to spend extravagantly on things that we have been convinced are “worth” the buy. Thus, we live in a unique day and age where we are susceptible to being slaves to the media particularly in advertising. It is okay to spend when it is within your means, while ensuring that you still have savings for a rainy day. However, it is not okay to splurge due to your constant desires. Indeed being in debt is slavery.

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7)

Ref: asset-cache

A Christian needs to be a good steward who is capable of handling himself or herself in terms of monetary issues; trusting that God will do His part. There is no doubt that it is liberating to be free just as Christ intended us to be. In order to reap good fruits, you need to sow good fruits.

Debt can lead to disastrous consequences; it can destroy a relationship; it can empty our assets and everything we have worked so hard to create; and it can bring on mental anguish like no other problem previously faced. So why would anyone take the chance and incur debt? The truth is that there are any number of reasons people take on debt, some within our control and some outside our control, some are the choices we make and others are driven by circumstance.

Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely–be content with your pay.” (Luke 3:14)

People accumulate debt namely because of poor money management, pride, saving too little or not at all, deduction in salary, underemployment, the need to gamble, the need to provide for their families, and more. Nevertheless, if you are able to develop good money management and budgeting skills prior to any of these circumstances, it will become easier to deal with. If you disciplined yourself and plan ahead enough, you will ultimately be able to avoid them in the future.

Ref: coffee4thesoul

Ref: coffee4thesoul

It is often wise to remember that any time we spend outside our means will increase the deduction of wealth. Subsequently, this puts people at financial risk. When you take important steps toward financial responsibility, you will greatly reduce the probability of entering the debt cycle. It is always good to avoid any possible and foreseeable risks before they occur. Don’t allow yourself to owe a debt that you cannot pay. Instead, trust in God who is wise and almighty to lead you. He wants you to be free and liberated so that you can follow Him with all your mind and strength.

In order to plan ahead, Focus on the Family (a global ministry that is focused on helping families thrive) wrote an article where they shared a few pointers on how to avoid debt.

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. (Romans 13:8)

For the Lord your God will bless you, as he promised you, and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow, and you shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over you.

“If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, ‘The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your eye look grudgingly[a]on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to the Lordagainst you, and you be guilty of sin. 10 You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the Lordyour God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake. 11 Forthere will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ (Deuteronomy 15:6-11)

The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. (Deuteronomy 28:12)

An Expanded Review: Significance of Jesus’ Baptism—9th Mile Cheras Lutheran Church

$
0
0

15 Jan 2015 by Adeline Lum CM-

On 11th of January, Rev Lau Tong Hoong preached at the 9th Mile Cheras Lutheran Church on the significance of baptism.

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

(Matt 3:15 KJV)

Although Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He chose to be baptized by John the Baptist. (Matt 3:13-15). This is odd because according to the universal compass of righteousness, Jesus should baptize John (Bengal Gnomen’s commentary).

On a side note, it is noteworthy to point out the propriety of Jesus towards John’s scruples from his answers. Jesus used the word ‘suffer’, which means permit. His answer to John’s attempt to defer His baptism is ‘gentle, respectful, dignified, simple, yet deep, deferential, half-yielding, yet strong in its very gentleness.’ (Expositor’s Greek Testament) Perhaps, we can all learn from Jesus’ propriety and humility.

So, why did Jesus choose to be baptized by John? The phrase “all righteousness” here is the same as ‘a righteous institution’ or ‘appointment.’ Jesus was about to enter his great ministry. Hence, it is proper that Jesus ‘submitted to the ordinance of baptism’ in humility, so that every area of His life would be a living testament for all His disciples to follow. (Barnes’ Notes on the Bible) His baptism is ‘not a matter of absolute necessity, nor of absolute duty, but of moral fitness.’ (The Pulpit Commentary)

The worship team

The worship team

Jesus chose to be baptized as a symbolical act of the older people blessing the representative of the coming age, like how Melchizedek blessed Abraham. (The Pulpit Commentary) What coming age is Jesus symbolizing? Rev Lau shared that through His baptism, Jesus is representing the ending of the age of prophets and the coming of the New Testament age.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

(Matt 3:16 KJV)

In the baptism, a Spirit of God descended on Jesus like a dove, a picture of what believers-in-Christ would receive when they believe in Him.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

(Acts 2:2-4 KJV)

Jesus’ baptism also manifested the picture of the Sacred Trinity in our world: we have Jesus Christ the son, the Holy Spirit descending on Him like a dove and the Father in Heaven approbating Jesus Christ as His Son.

This baptism also happens in order that God can publicly affirm Jesus’ position as the Son of God. Likewise, through baptism, we publicly affirm to others that we are God’s children.

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

(Matt 3:17 KJV)

Lastly, the baptism is a significant event to mark Jesus’ beginning of His ministry. Through our baptism as well, we are given the ministry of reconciliation from God to the world.

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

(2 Cor 5:17-21 KJV)

In conclusion, because Jesus went through baptism Himself, it is reasonable to render this act as important in our Christian faith following our confession.

The Book of Nahum: GOD’s response to Pride and its Cruelty

15 January 2015 by Tony Dibble-

1. The Book of Nahum

The three chapters in the Book of Nahum show the three parts of the prophecy about the destruction of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian empire. The first chapter is the straightforward warning of the destruction; the second chapter is about how the fall is to take place. The third chapter is a prophecy about the condition of the city, immediately after its fall. It was to become helpless: Nineveh was to be deserted by nearly every one of its defenders and its traders. They fled like locusts and grasshoppers, which desert their habitat the moment it becomes warmed by the sun.

Nahum’s prophecy is also a living word about GOD’s attributes. In particular, it reveals His justice, mercy, patience and forgiveness. The book also records GOD’s aim for the ultimate destruction of all that is evil. However, GOD’s concept of justice also requires that wrongs be righted and paid for. They are not to continue without any repentance and sorrow. GOD is a no-nonsense Person. He will not be manipulated. Nahum also shows that GOD is aware of the persecution and intimidation experienced by His people. The book testifies ultimately about the Sovereignty of GOD over all things.

2. GOD’s Dealings with Nineveh: Mercy , Forgiveness and Vengeance

Nineveh was located near present-day Mosul, Iraq. Jonah prophesied to the city around 760 BC and the people repented. However, this repentance did not last for perhaps, more than 60 years. The people had become backslidden in their relationship with GOD. As Matthew Henry, the 17th century Bible commentator suggested, the Assyrians possibly took GOD for granted, because He appeared to them to be slow in becoming angry. Nahum’s prophecy was made about a hundred years after Jonah’s. The spiritual state of the city had again, deteriorated. This time however, there was going to be no second chance. GOD’s mercy and forgiveness had been openly mocked (Gal 6:7).

3. Nineveh and the Assyrian Empire

The Assyrian empire was the largest in its day; but it was also the cruellest during its time (3:19). It stretched all the way, in the shape of a bulging crescent at one end, from present-day Iraq (as far north as the southern part of Armenia) into Egypt. It was famous for its military prowess. Its chariots were reported to have steel blades in their wheels that would rout the wheels of their enemy’s.

The city of Nineveh stretched over what would take a three-day journey (Jonah 3:3). Archaeologists report that the city’s walls were so wide that four chariots could ride alongside on its main walls. The city was also said to have had a moat, which was about 150 feet wide and possibly 60 feet deep. Nineveh lasted for up to twenty years after Nahum’s prophecy. This again, was another example of the extent of GOD’s patience. The break up of the whole Assyrian Empire then extended over a three-year period.

4. Political Impact of Assyria on GOD’s People

People whom the Assyrians had conquered were often uprooted and transported to other parts of the Empire and enslaved. These victims were often mutilated and skinned.

Judah (Southern Israel) lived in fear of Assyria. It reluctantly became one of twenty-two suppliers of building materials for the construction of the Assyrian King’s palace. Judah had seen how Assyria had attacked and enslaved Northern Israel. Judah, in Assyria’s view, was a potential ally to any of the insurgent territories. Hence, Judah needed to be subjugated. The Assyrians had destroyed many cities in Judah. In 701 BC, they besieged Jerusalem for a while, but had been drawn away by the trouble in other territories. Judah’s wicked King Manasseh (697-642 BC) was for a time, enslaved in Assyria. He was sent there in chains and double fetters until he repented (2 Chr 33:10-13). His own people were also disobedient to GOD. Hence, Judah lived under the shadow of Assyria during the early 7th and 8th centuries BC. Then, Nahum prophesized to Judea that Nineveh was going to fall to its enemies. This was GOD’s assurance to Judah that He would deliver His people. In August 612 BC, the dams overflowed the city, just as Nahum had prophesied (1:8; 2:6). This presented the Medes and the Babylonians the opportunity to invade the capital through the cracks in the city’s walls.

5. GOD the Stronghold

GOD is good and is a strong defence in times of trouble for those who trust in Him (1:7). He recognises those that put their trust in Him. GOD may humble us but He knows the limits to which we could endure tribulation (1:12 & 13). GOD will restore His people from such tribulation and oppression (2:2). This only happens if we maintain our commitment to Him even when under adversity (1:15).

6. The Anger of GOD

GOD is slow in getting angry and His power is great (1:3a). He is slow to anger as He wants us to repent. He makes no distinction on whom His patience falls (Numbers 14:18). However, He does not leave the guilty unpunished in the long term (1:3b). When that punishment is delivered, it would prove to be totally destructive. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah gave GOD a new sin, so GOD gave the inhabitants of these twin cities a new punishment: He gave them hell on earth to the point where the land became desolate and inhospitable (Gen 19:24 & 25).

Ref: blogspot

7. GOD and Evil

GOD’s anger and fury will see the destruction of evil (1:6). This applies both to the present as well as to the end of civilisation (Rev 21:5). It applies to the material and the spiritual realms. Evil is a defeated power because of Calvary’s cross (John 19:30; Rom 8:1). The enemy’s reputation will not survive; nor would any of their idols see the light of day. GOD will ultimately put an end, now or later, to those who are evil. Unless one repents, evil will catch up in this world, if not in the next. GOD pursues His enemies to obliteration (1:8). He will bring disgrace on the enemy and expose their impotence, making them a complete spectacle(3:5-7,19).He would imprison and exterminate His enemies (3:10) who are ever ready to fall (3:12).The enemy’s supporters would desert them (3:16-18). There will be no cure (3:19) for the damage and destruction the enemy would encounter. No second chance would be given to His enemies (1:9& 10) in view of the continual evil practised. Though GOD permits our enemies to afflict us, He would ultimately break the hold that they may seem to have on us (1:13).

Ref: relentlessgo

Ref: relentlessgo

8. GOD and Nature

GOD is Interventionist. He is active in nature and His actions may move from one extreme to another. Bashan, Carmel and Lebanon are viewed as symbols of fertility (1:4) but if GOD willed, these very icons could turn out to be unproductive. He can intervene in nature as He wills, in order to have it fulfil His plans and His glory. GOD’s presence causes the earth and its people to tremble because His presence is overwhelming (1:5). Nothing and no one is spared from GOD acting out in our lives. He does not sit on the sidelines as though helpless to intervene. The water courses of Nineveh’s dams were subjected to a flood which none of the city’s planners could ever have envisaged. The walls of the city then cracked; the enemy moved in.

9. Conclusion

Herbert Butterfield, the Cambridge historian, wrote as follows: “The hardest strokes of heaven fall in history upon those who imagine that they can control things in a sovereign way.…” Christianity and History, p 104 (London: G. Bell & Sons, 1949). No one but GOD is Sovereign. The fall of Assyria is revelation that pride, manifested in ambition and greed, and leading to wickedness, constitutes a sure formula for destruction by GOD, in His time. In a sense, the prophecy against Nineveh was meant to be an advanced celebration by Judah, of that city’s destruction.

Reggie Lee’s ‘Elephant in the Church’ Launched to Great Anticipation

16 Jan 2015 by Jason Law CM -

We often hear that as Christians, one of the great privileges we have is in making an impact for the Lord. Impact mostly comes from influence, which can be made either through force or through wisdom. Influence in turn can be made in one of seven mountains (arts and entertainment, business, education, family, government, media, and religion).

For Christians, we recognize that influence ultimately comes through the work of the Holy Spirit. Ideally, the Holy Spirit must prevail on every one of these mountains, and some Christians have roles in more than one mountain. Recently, last Sunday in Glad Tidings PJ, Reggie Lee released his new film ‘Elephant in the Church’ to great anticipation. Who is Reggie Lee and what is so special about his films?

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The Lauching of ‘Elephant in the Church’ at Glad Tidings PJ.

Reggie Lee is a former chef, born in Penang but now living in London, also now serving in a wider capacity for the Lord. At the end of this year he plans to launch a cookbook, but already for ten years, Reggie has been itinerant, traveling from church to church, city to city, country to country, to teach, preach, evangelise, and responding to whatever the Lord has called him to do.

An area of expertise for Reggie is the Book of Revelations, and he has himself written three books to date. It is through his movies, however, that he will be instantly recognizable to many people, including non-Christians. In 2010, he released the movie ‘Who are the Chinese?’.

Reggie Lee – Pastor, Chef, and Filmmaker

SAM_4353

Pastor Reggie Lee.

During the launch of his latest film, Reggie shared that he considers himself foremost either as a pastor or a chef, not a filmmaker, and there were challenges in the early stages of his filmmaking career. Firstly, he needed money and he had no such large amount of money. Secondly, he needed to write a script and he did not know how to do so. Thirdly, he needed a large team consisting of a wide variety of professions including a logistics manager and a director.

Reggie, however, knew how to trust the Lord and the Lord has led him on a miraculous and providential journey of discovery in this area of his life. When there were challenges in finances, God would send people who voluntarily sponsored the sum necessary. LiveWire! Media Sdn Bhd came along to help produce and make his films possible. Reggie shared many testimonies of how God has blessed and guided him through their making.

SAM_4354

Pastor Reggie Lee sharing his story behind his film ‘Who Are The Chinese?’

The film ‘Who Are the Chinese?’ traces the roots of the Chinese people and presents evidence that we are the people of God, something which is reflected even in the characters of the written Chinese language. It has been watched by millions of people in multiple countries, and the Hong Kong actress Fung Bo Bo was so blessed after watching it that she volunteered to sign on as the narrator for the Cantonese version free of charge. This version will be out before Chinese New Year. In 2014, the film won the prestigious Best Mission Film Stellae Award, beating many other films which were themselves of great quality.

Reggie Lee’s ‘Elephant in the Church’

After the success of ‘Who Are the Chinese?’, recently Reggie Lee launched his second film ‘Elephants in the Church’. What is ‘Elephant in the Church’ about? Reggie Lee communicated that the film is intended to combat the evils of what is known as the Replacement Theology, something which Reggie said is unfamiliar to many people but which is doing a great deal of damage. Principally, however, I understood that Reggie has a heart of compassion for a certain distinctive group of people, and what he was fighting against was the effect of this theology.

new-new

The Replacement Theology first cropped up in 105AD.  Basically, it teaches that the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ had established a New Covenant with God’s people, and that the Old Mosaic Covenant had been fulfilled and ‘replaced’ by that New Covenant.  This is a major theological stance of many mainstream churches, but it has also had adverse effects on our views of the Jewish people and Judaism’s current status. Because this theology holds that the Jews had been replaced by the Church as God’s chosen people, it has affected the way many Christians regard and treat the Jewish people.

Reggie showed through clips from the film of the churches’ mistake during the Holocaust. When Hitler came to power and established Nazism in Germany, he implemented what was known as the Final Solution. Millions of Jewish people were murdered and the piles of bodies were so huge that the Nazis used bulldozers to push their bodies into mass graves like rubbish heaps.

Reggie Lee shared that many churches kept quiet during this whole period of history, and many are still ignoring this huge question in their midst; the ‘Elephant in the Church’. How are Christians to treat the Jewish people? Have they been replaced by the Church as God’s chosen people? Reggie communicated that these are important questions, and the film is scheduled to be launched in many nations such as the US, Europe, and other nations.

Further Projects

Besides this film, there are many other projects in Reggie’s pipeline, among which are the 1st project of Evangelistic Animation for India and the rest of the world. “When ‘Who Are the Chinese?’ was released, many people asked ‘What about the Indians?’. This is my acknowledgement and gift of gratitude for the support I have received from many people,’ Reggie shared.

Reggie Lee’s upcoming projects will include an animated evangelistic animation for the Indians.

Other upcoming film projects include ‘Revelation: The Movie’, ‘Who Are The Chinese Part 2’, ‘The Other Side of the Coin’, ‘Amazing Testimonies’, ‘Why Don’t You Give Me A Chance?’, and short videos for YouTube as well as animated stories from the Bible.

All finances that come in for Reggie Lee’s projects and through his films will be channeled for the Holy Land, India’s education, other countries according to needs, and poor pastors in Indonesia. 16 Jan 2015 -

Focus on the Family Malaysia is organizing a Father & Son Adventure Camp to provide fathers and sons with exclusive one-to-one time for playing, communicating, collaborating and relaxing with one another – all in the midst of an “adventure-camp” setting.

1-F&S

“In our daily lives, so many things seem to crowd into the schedule we have with our sons. It is so important that we spend time with them for the purpose of bonding, nurturing and imparting of our values and beliefs.” said Lee, the Executive Director of Focus on the Family Malaysia.

This bonding is especially vital in times of strain in the relationship between father and son, as so often happens. Studies show that those able to deal constructively with crisis were those who had bonding experiences together.

2-F&S

Lee added, “Another important reason for fathers to spend time together with sons is to foster a ‘secure attachment.’ Development experts suggest that such attachment is central to a teenager’s development of social competence, higher self-esteem, and well-being.”

Attachment of sons to fathers during adolescence may also provide the secure base from which teens can explore and master new environments, widening their social world in a psychologically healthy manner.

3-F&S

“Therefore, we need to find time to be with our boys for the purpose of bonding, helping them feel secure and thus increasing their well-being” said Lee.

Greater Experiences, Greater Expectations

17 Jan 2014 by Kim Yung CM-

“We need to be focused on what God wants us to do and we need to be expectant,” shared Pastor Suresh Sundram as he shared on the topic above at City Revival, Subang Jaya, on the 4th of January 2015. Just like when a seed is sown into a mother’s womb, one is not able to see the outward signs of what is happening inside until a few months pass. But once the outward sign manifests, one will feel a great sense of focus and expectation. “A lot of times we cannot see it, but God is doing something behind the scenes. God has got new things for us! Amen?,” shared Suresh.

“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past
.

See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

(Isaiah 43: 18-19)

The Word of God brings change! There are times when God allows situations into our lives, where we feel that we are in the wilderness (a situation where we feel that nothing seems to be happening). But despite being in the wilderness, the Lord is able to create roads and to create a river in the desert; He is able make the impossible happen.

“Sometimes, there are no words to describe what we are going through, and sometimes all we have is God, so we have got to put our trust in Him and know that God will make a way when there seems to be no way,” shared Suresh.

As we go through struggles in our life, keep the Bible verse Isaiah 43:18-19 close to your heart.

The City Revival congregation at Holiday Villa Subang Jaya

The City Revival congregation at Holiday Villa Subang Jaya

“We need to make sure we know who God is and we need to ensure that this is our priority,” he shared.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

(Romans 8:28)

“God is the Lord over our families, He is the Lord over our businesses, He is the Lord over our nation, He is the holy one, He is the one who paid for our sins, He is the Creator who formed you. Apart from Him, there is no life. He is the ultimate authority! A lot of good things that we have in our life (come from Him) because He created us. It is He who has given us talents and great things. Whether the enemy wants to do something or not, God is above that!” encouraged Suresh.

We must never limit God through some of the things that we have seen God perform or through our own understanding and experiences of Him. God is above that!

“He can do whatever He wants to do through whoever He wants,” he said.

But Jesus beheld [them], and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

Pastor Suresh preaching the Word

Pastor Suresh preaching the Word

DO NOT ALLOW your negative experiences of failures and discouragements to possess you and prevent you from moving on to the future. If you keep looking back into the past, you will not be able to move on to your something new. The key to moving on is to be focused, this is to lessen the room for accidents to happen; we cannot be focused if we are distracted. Clear up the things in your past that you are holding within you and remember that God is in control!

For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations. (Psalms 22:28)

“The everyday of this year will be a fresh experience! We have got to be saturated with God and be in close communion with God and His purposes,” shared Suresh.

Simultaneously, we need to distance ourselves from wrong associations.

“Sometimes we are so traumatized by the bad things that happened and we may feel that we are predestined for this bad thing; this is part of life. People often feel that because they have failed, they are a failure. Let me tell you that God makes no failures! As we look at the life of Jesus, was He focused? He was focused on the cross! Jesus died on the cross so that each one of us can experience His forgiveness,” shared Suresh.

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:12-14)

Worldly Concepts which challenge the Spread of the Gospel

$
0
0

17 Jan 2014 by Tony Dibble-

1. PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is the love and pursuit of wisdom. This is not the love and pursuit of GOD. It was a pursuit outside of GOD. This was to find out the source and the basis of life. Like the love of sweets, the pursuit of philosophy has its hazards. To the Greeks, philosophy was the highest intellectual pursuit. The Jews did not accord the subject the same standing, though. Bertrand Russell, the Cambridge philosopher, wrote in The Problems of Philosophy (Oxford, OUP, 1971), page 91, “The value of philosophy is, in fact, to be sought largely in its very uncertainty.” Nothing is conclusive in philosophy.

Ref: oof

Ref: oof

2. SCRIPTURE AND PHILOSOPHY

There is a serious warning about philosophy in Colossians 2:8 as follows:

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”

  • Firstly, we are warned to be on guard, against philosophy.
  • Secondly, we could be unduly absorbed in philosophy.
  • Thirdly, philosophy is placed in the same category as empty deception (or in other words, nonsense and lies)
  • Philosophy is based on tradition and is about the elementary (minor) aspects of existence.
  • Philosophy is not from Christ.

Hence, the Christian is to ensure that he is not enslaved by philosophy. He may study or teach the subject, but he is not to be caught up with it, personally. He must have his Spiritual Anchor: Christ.

Ref: blogspot

Ref: blogspot

3. THE CHRISTIAN MIND

The Christian has the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16). The mind of Christ focuses on the will of His Father. The will of the Father is that all men be saved through the death of Christ (John 3:16; 6:40). This is the gospel, the good news. The focus of a Christian is the spread of this gospel (Matt 28:18-20). That is why we are asked to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This is to ‘prove’ or undertake what the will of GOD is (Rom 12:2).The mind of the Christian is not to look at traditional and elementary knowledge. Instead, it is to focus on meeting the will of GOD.

In Matthew 5:8, Christ says that that the pure in heart shall ‘see’ GOD. He had nothing to say about philosophers being able to do this.

4. CHALLENGES TO THE SPREAD OF THE GOSPEL

The challenges to the spread of the gospel include philosophies and associated concepts as follows:

4.1. Anti-GOD approaches

Atheism

An atheist ‘believes’ that GOD does not exist. He fails to understand that his error is in a finite (limited) being trying to understand/prove that an infinite (unlimited) being does not exist. The atheist is sometimes considered a person who ‘refuses’ to believe in the existence of GOD. If pressed, he may possibly admit that he is really an agnostic.

Agnosticism

The agnostic feels that the existence or non-existence of GOD cannot be proven either way. He considers this matter of little relevance.

Free thinking

A free thinker has an open mind. This means that he has not thought deeply enough about the matter of GOD’s existence. He does not want his thinking to arrive at any conclusion. He is perhaps afraid of being classified as having this, or that sort of mind.  It usually implies that he wants to be ‘freed’ from thinking. He wants to be freed from the act as well as the personal and social consequences of thinking.

The act of thinking may give rise to a mind-boggling exercise. The personal consequence is having found GOD, he then has to relate to Him. The social consequence is being treated an outcast by the pragmatic world, if he were to believe in GOD.

Ref: soulgrit

Ref: soulgrit

4.2. Religious Preferences

Pluralism

The pluralist believes that all religions lead to salvation. He really supports none. Some of the ‘religions’ may only be ethical and moral systems of conduct. The pluralist is never on solid ground. If pushed, he would possibly sympathise with the atheist, the agnostic or even the free thinker.

Syncretism

The syncretic would combine the beliefs and worship practices from a number of religions and make them into his single religion. This he does from his own preferences. He considers his selection to be the fairest combination. He, not GOD, decides on the content of his belief system.

Ref: jmatheny

Ref: jmatheny

4.3. Common Philosophies

Humanism

Humanism considers the development of man’s potential the sole aim in this life. A man is to act for the ‘good’ of his fellow beings. The record of man’s violence and intimidation towards his neighbour simply grows as the world’s population multiplies. This is a clear indictment against humanism as an effective philosophy.

Humanism ultimately considers man his own ‘god’. This is contrary to the gospel. The gospel teaches that a man must ultimately lose himself to find GOD, through Christ (Luke 14:27; I Cor 15:31). He has to be Christ in essence. This is what the abiding presence of GOD (John 15:5) and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 3:16) are about.

Utilitarianism

Utilitarianism holds that an act is acceptable if it benefits the most number of persons and gives them the greatest happiness possible. Man decides that an action is valid. GOD is not entered into the equation. It matters nothing to the utilitarian whether GOD’s standards are maintained or breached.

This is against the Christian approach. To the Christian, an action is acceptable if it is:

  • within the will of GOD, and particularly if men are to be saved (1Tim 2:3 & 4); and
  • done for the glory of GOD (1 Cor 10:31)

Ref: vancouversun

Ref: vancouversun

Liberalism

Liberals, generally believe that GOD exists but believe that they may think and act independently of Him, within their own concept of reason. Reason, as opposed to GOD, is their basis of conduct. Their cold head rather than the warm heart or the refreshing spirit is in the driving seat. Any basis of action outside of GOD is really what it is—outside of GOD.

Hedonism

This is the pursuit of pleasure as the main aim in life. Lust and its fulfilment then becomes a person’s god. A man’s god is his own belly. Such an approach is against scripture as explained in 1 John 2:15-17.These verses are a total denunciation of lust.

Evolution

Some scientists maintain that man has evolved from lower forms of life. This has not been proven and can never be proven as time has passed us by. It is a theory and not a law.

There are also those who are not scientists who blindly accept the theory as valid.

Ref: logicfaith

Ref: logicfaith

“Death” of GOD

Some maintain that philosophers have proven that GOD does not exist. This is incorrect. Philosophy studies the traditional arguments for the existence of GOD and exposes philosophy’s own limitations of the process. Philosophy is not ‘built’ to conceive GOD.

Apathy about Spiritual Matters

There are people who have not prayed but who are ready to maintain that GOD does not exist. This is the equivalent of saying that someone does not exist merely because he was not contacted.

There are also those who have not read the Bible nor studied it but are quick to maintain that it is a book of fables. This again is the equivalent of saying that the journey was unenjoyable without having taken the trip.

Gross ignorance, arising from apathy about spiritual matters, is never a basis to take positions on the critical issues in life.

CONCLUSION

GOD has told us that If we plan to find Him, we would find Him but only if we searched for Him with all our heart (Jer 29:12-14).This again echoes Matthew 5:8—the pure in heart shall see GOD.

We must understand four requirements here:

i) We must be totally ready to meet GOD and not just take a light-view of the prospect;

ii) The search could be interesting and we could be side-tracked: but we must stay focused on the goal of getting to find, and to relate to GOD;

iii) The search must be whole-hearted as GOD demands in verse 13, and it must not be a half-hearted effort;

iv) We must pray as GOD directs us in verse 12, since the search is not an intellectual exercise—GOD is not a concept but a person we relate to, and we are after nothing short of Him.

FALSE versus TRUE PROPHECY

18 Jan 2015 by Lim Poh Ann -

Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

ALERT

Long ago, kings often sought counsel from prophets before going to war.

Thus when evil King Ahab wanted to fight against his enemy, he summoned his 400-strong band of prophets. He asked them, “Shall I go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”

Being ‘yes men’, who would tell the king only what he wanted to hear, they answered, “Go, for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand”(1 Kings 22:6).

However, King Jehoshaphat, Ahab’s ally, was not satisfied with this chorus of approval. So Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of (1 Kings 22:7)?”

Ahab answered, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad.  He is Micaiah son of Imlah” (1 Kings 22:8).

However, pushed to a corner by his ally, Ahab relented and called for the voice of this remaining unpopular prophet to be heard.

Meanwhile, as if to inject colour and drama to a tense situation, Zedekiah, chief spokesman for the band of willing-to-please prophets, made iron horns and declared, “This is what the Lord says: ‘With these you will gore the enemy until they are destroyed’” (1 Kings 22:11).

Before coming into the presence of the two kings, Micaiah had already been instructed to sugar coat his prophecy so that it might flow in unison with the rest of the prophets. The messenger sent to summon Micaiah said to him, “Look, the other prophets without exception are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favourably” (1 Kings 22:13).

Summoned before Ahab, Micaiah gave this word for the king: “Attack and be victorious for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.” He must have said this in a tongue-in-cheek manner, knowing that the king only wanted to hear pleasant and favourable messages.

Pressed further by Ahab to reveal the truth, Micaiah painted a sombre picture of defeat should the king venture into battle: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace’” (1 Kings 22:17).  This was the blunt, bitter and unadulterated truth which Ahab was unprepared to receive.

Micaiah also provided the king a rare glimpse into a “conference” that was happening in God’s throne. When God asked who will entice Ahab to attack his enemy, a spirit of deception stepped forward and volunteered to do the dirty job. This evil spirit would worm its way through the 400 lying prophets (1 Kings 22:19-23). This incident reminds me of the discussion in heaven between God and satan when the latter wanted to test Job’s faith by bringing trials upon him.

Ref: everfaith@wordpress

Ref: everfaith@wordpress

True to Micaiah’s prophecy, Ahab’s army was defeated. Though Ahab tried to disguise himself, he was struck by a stray arrow that went through a gap in his armour. His human stratagem could not thwart the fulfillment of the prophetic word of Micaiah, which found its mark as accurately as the arrow that impaled Ahab.

Ahab suffered a most ignominious death. He was buried in Samaria, a foreign land, without honour. And they washed his chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and the prostitutes washed themselves in it, according to the prophetic word of Elijah (1 Kings 21:19, 22:38).

A point of interest here is that King Jehoshaphat of Judah was a good king. He consulted God’s prophet when invading armies confronted him; as a result, he scored a tremendous victory over his enemies (2 Chronicles chapter 20).

Yet, in this instance, as an ally of Ahab, Jehoshaphat did not influence Ahab in his decision-making. He made no attempt to tell Ahab to listen to Micaiah, God’s prophet, or stop him from following the resounding voice of the majority—the false prophets—which finally lead to his (Ahab’s) doom.

The prophecies of God’s prophets, Micaiah and Elijah, came to pass in the life of evil King Ahab. The 400 false prophets who were always willing to please Ahab were put to shame.

What can we learn from the foregoing?

We must be discerning—know how to distinguish truth from falsehood. “Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper” (2 Chronicles 20:20).

We must know how to listen to God’s voice. It may be the voice of a diminutive unpopular prophet—without the flourish or charisma of the likes of Zedekiah, chief spokesman for the band of willing-to-please prophets.

Falsehood is often enticing and pleasant—what we would like to hear—as opposed to truth which may be bitter and unpalatable.

Sugar coated

When it comes to truth, the majority is not necessarily right. Truth does not need the endorsement of the majority.

One prophet and God make a majority—whether the prophet is Micaiah against the 400 false prophets in this account or Elijah against the 450 prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel.

The false prophets here were being deceived first (a lying spirit entered them) before they went out to deceive others. Evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13).

Of the various features—deception, persecution and * turbulent times—mentioned by Jesus in Matthew 24 (The Olivet Discourse) as characteristic of the end times, deception seems to be most prominent. And even the elect—supposedly mature leaders—can be deceived. If leaders are deceived, don’t you think the flock will fare even worse?

* Note: turbulent times—wars, rumours of wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes

“For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:5).

“For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Matthew 24:24).

We should not be like Jehoshaphat, who did not warn Ahab of the tragic consequences of listening to false prophets.

We need to be alert against deception. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).

Only a proper understanding of scripture and discernment will enable believers to overcome deception.

“Faith is good only when it engages truth; when it is made to rest upon falsehood it can and often does lead to eternal tragedy.”  – A. W. Tozer

The Word This Week – WE CANNOT BEAR FRUIT OUTSIDE OF GOD

19 Jan 2015 by Reverend Jai Kumar -

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

THE INFLUENCE OF THE MIND

Every terrorist and every criminal was once a child. So was every missionary, every scientist and every good living citizen of this world. The question we need to ask ourselves today is: “What drove certain people to the wrong direction?” Researchers would be quick to rationalize the problem by pointing to a DNA reference. Psychologists may arrive at a range of reasons for the existing behavior.

But God says ‘I formed you in the likeness of My image that each child carry and reflect the heart of the Father in your life’. Where did things go out of order then, that the very humans, created in the image of God can be radicalized into some demonic behavior that they go around blowing up themselves and killing people?

By the way, what are the set of factors that motivates ordinary young and educated people to be easily drawn to become terrorists?  What is it that is so attractive about that ideology? Is terrorism branded to be just a random, unpredictable act, influenced because of psychologically disturbed people? Or is it because of unfair discrimination that brings frustration to people deprived of basic human rights? Or is it because you happen to belong to a certain religion or race that is marginalized by society? Under the circumstances, is the world seriously able to arrest and deal with the actual underlining issue that is spreading like virus globally?

ARE WE ABLE TO OFFER THE RIGHT DIRECTION AT THE RIGHT TIME?

When the allied troops captured a young American citizen fighting alongside the Taliban, there were a lot of questions asked as to what was the real issue behind the problem with this young man. What actually was the reason for this boy to become a terrorist? It was ultimately discovered that the parents of John Walker Lindh the child who came out of a privileged background was apparently very open-minded so to speak. They didn’t put their foot down when their son was going to drop out of school. In fact they actually were proud of him for pursuing his passion for an alternative course. They never even objected for him to go to Yemen.

Newsweek magazine called it truly perplexing that this young man was attracted to the most intolerant sect.

Prov.14:12

There is a way that seems right to a man but the end is the way of death.

I suppose there is nothing perplexing about it. This young man, I believed, craved for guidance, standards and discipline. Unfortunately Mom and Dad were unable to offer that to him but apparently the Taliban did!

Here is what we need to understand; the reason why the world is finding it hard to eradicate terrorist groups today is because they are highly disciplined and they have an uncompromising strict code of ethics to uphold.

John Walker’s destiny into a wrong direction did not begin in Afghanistan; it began with parents who never said no! And who failed to recognize that their son was too young and that he needed the wisdom and guidance from older people.

Prov. 19:18 says

“Discipline your son in his years while there is hope. If you don’t you will ruin his life”

Many lives are destroyed today because of a lack of parental wisdom for guidance that was not offered effectively at the most fragile and crucial time of the life of children. Often parents have placed over-confidence on their children and in the name of freedom and independence compromised in disciplining and guiding their children. We forget sometimes children need support and guidance from parents; instead we take them for granted.

A GODLY MOTHER IS DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER

Samuel the prophet led the nation of Israel for forty years. He guided King David in some of his most crucial decisions. What made the difference in his life? Who was the dominant influence in his life?

His mother was a godly woman of prayer. You know what? There is great difference between a godly woman who prays for her children and a woman who tries to raise up her kids with her own strength independent of God.  Jesus said:

John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

We need the total grace of God in raising our children but so often we try to work it out outside of God and ultimately end up in trouble. Jesus said without me you can produce no fruit.

Listen to Hannah’s prayer at the birth of Samuel:

“I prayed for this child and the Lord answered my prayer…..Now I give him back…he will belong to the Lord all his life (1 Samuel 1:27-28)

There is a powerful demonic spirit out there waiting to destroy the beautiful human creation of God. The devil uses the tool of deception to enslave us into thinking we are not good enough so we easily buy into what the enemy is selling us.   Many of us unfortunately are deceived and mesmerized into believing it’s a norm to be victimized by the enemy. Our human mind is so fragile that we are so vulnerable to human influence than to God’s influence.

1 Peter 5:8

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

THE POWER OF PRAYER

Never underestimate the power of prayer that’s released when a parent pleads with God on behalf of a child. Who can understand how many prayers are being answered right now because of faithful parents who have been consistently praying?

Ref: allforfamlife

Mom and Dad, there is nothing more precious! There is nothing more powerful! There is nothing more important than the time you spend interceding with God on behalf of your child.

Don’t ever say it’s too late praying for your child who has brought you tears and grief. You will be surprised God can turn things around for your child no matter how hopeless and useless the circumstances may appear to you. The cry of one voice towards heaven can bring about a miracle because you are worshiping a miracle-working God.

Ref: johncnewton@wordpress

Despite the negative things you are seeing. Despite the heavens that are silent for you right now! Despite wondering if you will ever get your prayers answered in your life time. Don’t ever stop praying! Why? Two reasons: Firstly God works according to His timing not our timing. Secondly when godly parents pray, you better watch out! Things will happen!!

Sexual Misunderstanding Q & A

20 Jan 2015 -

Question:

My husband is constantly badgering me to have sex. When I respond that I’m not in the mood, he gets angry and tells me that there are all kinds of things that he does for me when he’s “not in the mood”—like going to work, washing the dishes, helping with the housework. I’ve tried to explain that it’s not the same thing, but either he isn’t listening or he doesn’t believe me. Is there something wrong with me? What can I do to smooth these troubled waters?

Ref: posipesi@wordpress

Answer:

You’re right to suggest that discomfort with sex is very different from discomfort with a job or some other unpleasant but necessary aspect of life. This is especially true for women, whose feelings about intimacy are subject to the hormonal fluctuations of a monthly cycle and whose general orientation toward sexual stimulation and pleasure is different from that of a man.

For a woman, sex requires a willingness to be vulnerable, transparent and open to her husband’s advances. It involves an ability to trust (an ability which will need special nurturing if she’s had a history of childhood abuse, date rape or mistreatment by men). If she feels used, or if she’s uncomfortable for any reason with any aspect of the sexual act, she won’t be able to relax and enjoy the moment. That’s not to mention that a woman’s sexual response usually takes more time and is tied to feelings of romance and emotional intimacy. In fact, her arousal cycle can take as long as 30 to 45 minutes to reach completion. If a couple’s entire sex act only lasts 10 or 15 minutes, she won’t even have a chance to get going. This is a common reason why some women come away from sex feeling “cheapened.”

Bottom line: if your husband is pushing you into doing things you don’t feel inclined to do, he’s actually squelching your openness and vulnerability. He is, in effect, destroying your ability to trust and forcing you into a corner where you have no choice except to adopt a defensive attitude. That spells death to genuinely meaningful intimacy. What you somehow need to make him understand is that it is actually in his best interests to back off a bit and wait for you to take the lead. If he can do this, your interest in physical intimacy may revive and the two of you may discover an exciting new sex life together.

dollarphotoclub_51638760

Ref: jeremyboden@wordpress

We suggest that you look for a good opportunity to sit down and discuss this issue with your husband. Don’t put it off until you’re in bed together. Don’t wait until he’s angry and you’re on the defensive. Instead, arrange a time when you can go out to dinner and talk about your feelings openly and honestly. Explain your perspective and listen carefully to what he has to say in reply. You owe it to each other to find a solution to this problem.

As you go through this process, bear in mind that the sexual aspect of your marriage is important. It’s not something that you can afford to let go by the wayside—not if you want to build a relationship that will last a lifetime. So for now, set aside any guilt feelings or unrealistic expectations, and simply seek to extend acts of self-sacrificial love, whether in the bedroom or some other context in your marriage.  Hopefully this change in attitude, when combined with a healthy dose of relational communication, will begin to open a whole new avenue of sexual expression.

Being Certain In Times of Chaos – The Call of Discipleship

$
0

21 Jan 2015 by Jason Law CM -

During the 1960-1970s, there was a historical happening that took the world by storm. It was not that this event was unprecedented, for just barely two decades before it, people had gone through a truly cataclysmic experience that spanned almost the whole globe. It was the fact that the Vietnam War was the first conflict that was broadcast so vividly on television. For the first time, people knew how it was to go through an adversity like this. The fact that it took place in a nation that is so close to our shores didn’t help either.

While all this was before my time, I remember that even while growing up in primary school during the early 90s, my classmates and friends were all very informed about the Gulf War. It seemed like that there was nothing else to talk about and everyone talked about the war. So it is untrue that children are too young to understand these things.

Now, all these things happened before the commercial Internet came in and there was still a degree of censorship in the media. Today, anyone can access the Internet and the kinds of videos and images you can find there are beyond the control of anyone’s restriction.

People often forget that Christians are, by nature, humans, and sometimes we do struggle with faith. How could we not after watching whole assemblies of children purposefully slaughtered because of their faith, or live beheadings with dull knives?

Most of us, including Christians, already know how the world is; that it is full of chaos and that there is nothing that has really changed in the human condition since the time of the blood sports in Rome’s arenas. So we do not really need to hear about how persecution is going to increase or about ‘God’s judgment’ on those who can’t stay resilient in their faith in these moments, because honestly, we have already heard about this and know about it.

Many people are seeking for answers, and though they are no easy ones, we must disciple believers especially in areas of faith. Because if we do not do so, and if they cannot find answers in God, many Christians, especially from the younger generation and young in faith, will drift away in search of answers from elsewhere.

SAM_4279

Pastor Lew Lee Choo (right)

I am writing this article with much guidance, through the pointers in one of the recent sermons by the Assistant Senior Pastor of SIB KL, Pastor Lew Lee Choo. In her sermon, she shared an important message about what we can be certain of and what will kill our faith during times like these.

Things That Will Kill Our Faith

Pastor Lew shared three things as caveats about what has an ability to kill our faith:

  1. Outward Religion (2 Timothy 3:5)

Pastor Lew defined outward religion as ‘holding a form of Godliness but denying its power’. The Gospel tells us that there were many times that Jesus Christ spoke out against the Pharisees, and that it was not about them as a priestly people but because they were focused inordinately on the outward show of religion.

Ref: ldscn

Our faith in God must be something real to us and that can only some through an authentic relationship with Him; through prayer, through receiving counsel from His word, through fellowship with people who genuinely know the Lord. Placing a focus in the right places is the most important thing in the lives of Christians and we must not be unduly focused on what will bring temporary pleasure or going through a series of motions and merely following the Law.

  1. Fear of Men (Luke 12:4-5)

The dominant struggle of this age is in the fear of men. We know how much damage and destruction men can bring upon those who are in opposing positions to them, but we often forget the power of our Lord. Despite the circumstances we cannot be dominated by fear. We cannot camouflage that physical death may be painful but it is temporary and cannot kill the soul.

We need to develop a perspective in our lives and always remember that our souls are in the hands of God. One day we will all be accountable to God for our actions on Earth, and any hardship and suffering we go through in this live for His sake will be made right through Him. We need to recognize God for who He is and cultivate a fear of the Lord. Ultimately, our souls are what truly matters because they are eternal.

  1. Dependence on wealth (Luke 12:16-21)
The-Murderous-Magnet-of-Materialism

Ref: ingodsimage

The central thing that we can learn through the tragedies in this world is the transient nature of earthly things. People who work hard throughout their lives can be made bankrupt through wrong investments or swindling. Our loved ones will one day depart this earth, at times in a sudden and unexpected manner. That is the nature of tragedy, but it also teaches us that what will preserve us is not wealth. If we build solely on earthly things, we are going to be building on sand and risk exposing ourselves to the vagaries of the human condition.

Things That Are Certain In Difficult Times

While Pastor Lew gave three cautions, she also shared that there are in fact more things we can be certain of in God. In her message, she shared five of these:

1. The Sovereignty of God (1 Chronicles 29:11-12)

If anything is going to sustain our faith, it is not going to be our own strength but knowing where to find faith/hope from. And there is nothing that rings out most clearly to people who know the Lord and His word, than His sovereignty. Despite all circumstances and what the visible world may show, very often we read about how God delivered His people. Many have even found God delivering us out of personal times of difficulty; during exams, when we were looking for our jobs, for some of us when we go through times of sickness and we thought we were going to die.

king-jesus-on-the-holy-throne-in-heaven-picture-hd-wallaper

Ref: godshotspot@wordpress

No matter what the circumstances may be, remember that everything owes their existence to Him and that He holds everything together through His sheer will. He is in absolute control and though we may not have the full picture, God knows what He is doing. This is one of the fundamentals we need to engage in; our faith in God’s ultimate power.

2. The Unfailing Love of God (Luke 12:6-7)

While the world judges according to whether one has a social creed or position, or a system of philosophical or political beliefs, one of the amazing things about God is that He meets people right where they are; whether they are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, broken or healthy, regardless of culture or race. The fact that an Almighty God could go to the extent of everything that He did 2000 years ago for our sakes, is the highest testament of His love.

The most visible sign for young Christians is when they see this love of God flowing with authority through the lives of mature Christians. There is power in fellowship and meetings such as prayer or cell groups. As Christians, we know that this is one of the certainties of life and we must disciple young believers in personally experiencing and finding this to be real for themselves.

3. The Eternal Value of the Human Soul (Luke 12:6-7)

soul_brought_to_heaven_bouguereau

Ref: copiosa

God’s unfailing love for His people also shows the heart of God and how much each soul matters to Him. He is the Creator of everything that is good and things become corrupted when they are directed on paths away from Him. God is always pro-life and satan is always pro-death or -destruction. There is value in every human soul. Recognizing this will shape our perspective of life even in times of uncertainties.

4. The Importance of Being a Witness (Luke 12:8)

During times of chaos, many people will be seeking for answers. If we are mature Christians who are rooted in the Lord, we have an important ministry as His witnesses. We must ensure that the Body of Christ is united, develop an eternal perspective, and stop focusing on petty politics or other things that don’t matter in the long-run. Recognize that we are in battles with spiritual forces, that battles can either be won or lost and that discipleship is extremely important. Times of chaos can either sweep the Church away or become an opportunity to strengthen foundations, as growth process, a chance to become bright beacons and minister to others, and to expand the Kingdom of God.

5. The Empowerment of the Holy Spirit (Luke 12:11-12)

Ultimately, of course, what it all boils down to is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. What will keep Christians strong is recognizing God’s sovereignty and knowing Him personally; His heart, His will, His work, His direction upon our lives. Responding to God not as a belief system but in an actual personal relationship is what will sustain our faith in the most difficult times. Everything that we do in life and every fruit that we produce comes through the work of the Holy Spirit and one of the primary purposes of God for Christians is in having an extraordinary, steadfast, resolute life; one that isn’t weak and susceptible to pressure but filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Grow.-Plant.-Discipleship

Ref: thegospelcoalition

One of the greatest tools of the devil is to distract us away from God through the use of external circumstances. There is perhaps no other time so crucial for discipleship as the one we’re in now, and I am happy to see many Church leaders stepping up to the plate, but there are also many others who seemed to have lost the plot. The call of discipleship is a crucial one in the life of every Christian, one that each of us must respond and answer to if we really want an unshakable Church.

Ignite your Faith

22 Jan 2015 by Kim Yung CM-

Pastor Bob Ignacio from Kingdom Christian Fellowship Malacca, a Philippine national living in Malaysia, recently graced Faith Oasis Fellowship on the 10th of January 2015. He shared on the different levels of faith.

“Baby Christians always stumble because they walk but when you put your hope in the Lord, you will soar,” shared Bob. In this case, there are those with no faith, those with little faith, and those with great faith.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7)

The Faithless

These people have no faith in the word and they do not believe in Jesus Christ but they have faith in other things that they believe in. We need to be careful with the faithless because they deny and pervert the truth.

A good example of a faithless person is Thomas. Thomas was a disciple of Jesus but when Jesus died he became faithless because he did not believe that Jesus rose from the dead. Only after Thomas saw Christ after His resurrection, he became a man of great faith and an apostle of the church. With no faith, you cannot believe in God. You doubt the word of God and you are always fighting the Word and God’s children.

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (John 20:27)

Those of Little faith

People of little faith doubt many things; they doubt what they have heard and what they have heard about the word of God, and they are always struggling to believe in God.

“In order have a new life, you must destroy the old life, then you will see things in God’s perspective. But you will never see things in God’s perspective if you stay in the same level that you’re in. You need to know God and to know the Holy Spirit,” he said.

With a weak faith, you can neither experience the power of God nor have an intimacy with Him; you doubt what the Spirit tells you. “You must learn how to be in the realm of the Holy Spirit,” he shared.

“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:29-31)

They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us. (1 John 2:19)

If you have weak faith or little faith, you are lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, a doubter. “If you want a breakthrough, you must level up every time” shared Bob.

Those of little faith are easily swayed from the truth as trials and temptations overcome them. Do not go on a roller coaster ride of asking God for forgiveness but instead repent once and for all, and become a changed person by renewing and increasing your level of faith in Christ.

Those with Great Faith

A person who is of great faith will stand firmly in complete confidence of God and will not be swayed from the truth. He is one who is confident about the Word of God and His teachings.

To be of great faith, we need to be faithful from deep down our hearts in what we say and do. Miracles and signs occur when people have great faith; you will not receive healing due to someone praying for you but by your faith. Jesus healed and performed miracles, He forgave sins and He raised the dead, and those who received it are the ones who had great faith in Him.

Great faith or being faithful has no limit. As we continue to keep growing in great faith the Holy Spirit will continue to impart on us the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are given according to faith but if you are of great faith you have one or several gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:12)

My eyes will be on the faithful in the land that they may dwell with me; the one whose walk is blameless will minister to me. (Psalms 101:6)

Sowing God’s Seed of Creativity into the Hearts of Men—Lew Tau Fei, Founder of ART SOWERS

On 11 January 2015, Art Sowers held an Art Talk, “Imperfect Art, Perfect Message” in DUMC, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

“Imperfect Art, Perfect Message” is an art that reveals the search for perfection. It’s an art that accepts the imperfect world when Jesus becomes one’s perfection. Five local artists or designers shared their journey of art with God and how God influenced their creativity.

The Art Sowers talk

Tau Fei is the founder of Art Sowers. He has an extensive working experience in both Advertising Agencies and Design Consultant Firms for the past 13 years before he started his own design company five years ago. In addition to managing his own design company, he lectures part-time at The One Academy.

Tau Fei has experienced countless rejections and humiliation before he became an Art Director in year 2003. In his first job, his Art Director told him that he would need to claim only half his salary if he wanted to learn. And back in 1997, during the economy recession, Tau Fei could hardly live on his salary. At that time, no one was willing to guide him; he felt empty, lonely, and heartbroken. Most nights, he would hide in his rented room and cry.

Tau Fei

Nevertheless, Tau Fei persevered on. He learned as many skills as he could, but all through gruelling ways until one day, God softly whispered into his heart, “Tau Fei, from today onwards, I will be your master. I will teach you and walk with you.” That was the defining moment—God picked him up!

In 2008, Tau Fei faithfully embraced God’s presence in his art and design. And out of 1,900 posters submitted by 1,257 participants from 70 countries in an international competition held in Greece, his poster was awarded as one of the best 10 posters within the theme “Dreams.”

God brought Tau Fei to Greece for the award ceremony and God continued to inspire him. After the trip, God also transformed his heart. Tau Fei started to see God in his art. God renewed Tau Fei’s passion and filled him with the Spirit of God; he was blessed with wisdom, knowledge, skills, and understanding. Upon returning home, he started Art Sowers to embrace God’s presence in his art and to sow God into people’s hearts.

However, Tau Fei only got serious with Art Sowers in the early 2014 when he was heavily burdened by God’s prompting. After attending an Alpha Malaysia conference called “Vision of Action”, God spoke clearly to him to put down his stakes and turn his visions and dreams into a reality.

Hence, on 11 January 2015, Tau Fei obeyed God’s calling for him to hold an Art Talk entitled “Imperfect Art, Perfect Message” in DUMC. This title describes an art that depicts the search for perfection epitomized by Jesus, while accepting our imperfect world.

The event drew more than 30 people from the Art College and industry. Many people had been asking him about this event and all he said was: “I do not know what to expect and neither do I know what to share but surely, God is at work. Just come and experience Him in this event.”

He also shared that his art journey is an outpouring of who he believed he is created to be. As he creates art, he could sense that God is working through him and He always has something to say.

“I am blessed as I watch how in the process, seeds of hope, renewal, and inspiration are sown in others through art. I have seen people in tears after looking at my posters in my exhibition. And I believe many will be sown into God’s Kingdom,” said Tau Fei.

As he continued to faithfully walk with God in his art journey, God blessed him with many awards. In 2010, the same poster in the “Dreams” theme was selected for an exhibition in Central House of Artist in Moscow, Russia. His poster was published in Moscow International Biennale of Graphics Design. And in 2012, his calendar design entitled “Trinity” for DUMC won an award from Creativity International from United States of America.

In 2011, God brought Tau Fei to The One Academy of Art & Design College. Although he knew that he is not qualified to teach yet, God reminded him that He is the one who qualified him with experiences and international recognitions, and that he has a mission in this college to lead a Christian Fellowship (CF). The calling was challenging because this CF is not officially recognized in this college. Yet, he witnessed many miracles taking place. Today, he can proudly say that God’s name is lifted up high in this college because of His Grace, His Mercy, and His Love.

And in 2013, God guided Tau Fei to lead his students to win a Gold award from from Creativity International from United States of America. That was how God put his name in the college for recognition, so that he can continue to glorify His Name. Since then, Art Sowers has been part of his CF to disciple the next generation of artists and designers.

Tau Fei also explained how most of his artwork is not what many would call as overtly “religious.” Yet, everything he creates flows out of his deepest expression of God’s love—tears of joy as well as tears of sorrow.

Tau Fei was once deeply hurt, so much so his agony affected his creativity. But every time he produced an art piece, God would use his painful experience to produce an art piece.

One day, he asked The Lord, “Lord, why am I inspired through this way? I would rather not be born as an artist.” But God said, “Tau Fei, I know your pain. This is our story. I love you enough to walk this journey with you. Therefore, wait for me.”

Each time, after Tau Fei created an art piece out of his painful experience, God would take away his pain and emptiness.

He continued: “Most of the time, I don’t have a final visual of how my artwork would look like. It’s not important to me at that time. The most important thing is how I pray to God for inspiration, listen to Him, and finally capture this vision and execute it.

“Sometimes, my mind is blank but I continue to trust the Lord. He will give you something: words, visions, even when you go out, God would show you something. And all these are very personal to me.”

Tau Fei shared how the Lord prompted him with fleeting visions to inspire him. For instance, he shared how seeing Colonel Sanders in KFC and its slogan ‘KFC So Good’ evolved into becoming Jesus with a beard with the slogan ‘Jesus so good.’

The Lord promised Tau Fei that He would multiply his talents and He will make him someone influential for his art, based on Gen 12:2.

I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;

I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

(Genesis 12:2)

A person with a high ambition, Tau Fei aspired to be ‘Asia’s hottest creative director’ like the ones he read about in the advertising magazine. His heart’s desire is to be onstage with the elite before an esteemed audience. But God brought him to Sarawak for a short mission trip to share his art to the Orang Asal.

What happened was after he came back from the short mission trip, the Lord said to him, “Tau Fei, you have to start somewhere here and reach out to people who really need you.” This experience was more amazing than his heart’s desire.

When he embraced that moment, God promoted him to be part of the Livewire’s conference as their design trainer; he got a slot to share in an auditorium. He said to God, “Lord, this is enough for me. I am happy and excited.”

“But God continues to be faithful in His Promise,” said Tau Fei. On 31 December 2014, he was asked to share about “Dialogue with God through Art” with over 2000 people in DUMC.

As he reflected back his journey with God, he was amazed how God has walked with him closely to fulfill his heart’s desire but in God’s timing and in God’s way.

One of his poster “Where is God? Here is God.” has touched many hearts over the years and has been shared in social media. This poster was created as a result from his conversation with God. At one point, he constantly questioned God’s existence until one day, God turned his question mark into His full stop. That’s when he saw God’s answer in the midst of his question mark. Till today, God has been using this poster to minister to many people, bringing tears of redemption to the lost.

Where is God? Here is God.

Where is God? Here is God.

He also recalled how God rebuked him in an art piece when he was doubtful of God’s love; he asked God, “Lord, do you really love me?” God says, “Tau Fei, why are you doubtful of my love for you?” In the midst of his two question marks, God revealed His love to him.

Doubtful Heart

Doubtful Heart

One night after work, he was sitting in the office experimenting with drawing thousands of colorful lines with the word Jesus embedded in it. He created this poster as his personal art collection. Later, he printed out this poster only to realize that something was unusual about this poster.

“When I am close to this poster, I can’t see the word ‘Jesus.’ But when I walked away, I saw the word ‘Jesus’ very clearly,” said Tau Fei. God was saying to him, “When you’re close to the material world, you cannot see me. The colorful lines are your material stuff.”

Polluted Soul

Polluted Soul

There was a time in his life when he felt very lonely and tired, yet God comforted him with a message that he visualized into a poster for his personal collection. It was God’s assurance in his life that He will neither forsake nor leave him. This poster served as a reminder that in the beginning, there is God. And in the year 1975, God created him, where his life is all about himself: “ME.” But when God transformed him 180 degrees, his “ME” was turned to “WE”—that’s when in his present life, it’s all about God and him together, symbolizing “WE” and no longer “ME.”

ME to WE

ME to WE

At one point in time, God even inspired him with Chinese characters to represent His message: “God speaks through His mouth (kǒu) and He helps us to build our lives as strong as a rock (shí). In the end, we live our lives with integrity (lěi). Each poster carries the word “kǒu”, which represents God’s word from His mouth.

Although Tau Fei is illiterate in Chinese, God’s inspiration came to him in the form of Chinese characters. It became clear to him that this was God’s way to inspire him. Remarkably, this poster has been used to share the gospel in seconds!

Word

Word

In 2014, God prompted his heart to start an exhibition with the limited time and money he has. So, he prayed, “Lord, if this is your will, I will do it with all my savings. I know it’s not enough. Help me.”

So on 3 to 25 May 2014, he started out this journey to Penang with his designers by faith. It was named “Momentarily Lost, Permanently Found.” And praise God! The venue was sponsored, the air cons were installed, the helpers came in, and all resources were provided in the nick of time.

He also shared how he involved Jesus in his exhibition by making Him a tag. This act of faith has served him a good reminder that Jesus is in control.

Jesus tag

One of the testimonies shared in the exhibition was a lady visitor from the United States of America. When she visited on that particular Sunday, the exhibition strangely had no other visitors. The Lord prompted Tau Fei to leave her alone. And when he returned to her, she was in tears because she was looking at the poster “Where is God? Here is God.” That moment was a divine appointment for him to share about God’s love to this lady. True enough, this lady was searching for her purpose in life and God had the perfect timing in this exhibition.

There were also many responses from visitors both local and overseas such as United States of America, United Kingdom, and Australia. Many of them left in an inspiring, encouraging and heart-warming note. Some of them said, “I felt the presence of God in this exhibition.” Some even took photos of the posters and sent to their friends to bring them hope and encouragement. “At the end, many were touched by the presence of God,” said Tau Fei.

At the end of this exhibition, God paid the bill! No one believed this exhibition required less than RM4,000 instead of the expected RM30,000 to RM40,000 of holding an exhibition. God is at work!

And because of the exhibition, the talk by Art Sowers was conceived based on Exodus 35:31: “…and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.”

Tau Fei also shared that the church was once the workshop for the greatest art the world has ever known. Just take a look at an ancient cathedral and the Renaissance painting. All of these are amazing art. But where are we today?

Many churches are no longer seeking to create unique encounters with God in art. There is very little about the modern evangelical church that is creative. And this is a huge problem. If the church is going to reach to the next generation, we must start something NOW!

Therefore, Art Sowers is an Art Movement for all Christians who are involved in creativity to come together to engage new culture and to rebuild our creative heart to reclaim our place as a creative leader and put God’s glory into Art once again.

The vision of Art Sowers is to encourage, to empower, and to edify Christian arts to lift up the glory of God’s creativity. And its mission is to transform the world through God’s creativity.

Affirm God’s Goodness in Times of Trial and Deception

23 Jan 2015 by Kim Yung CM-

Deception has existed since the beginning of time, and has been a recurring theme ever since Adam and Eve was deceived by the serpent in the Garden of Eden. The word “deceive” carries the idea of being led astray. Nevertheless, the Bible tells us that we only need to trust and obey the Lord, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.

Ref: pinimg

The Bible according to John 14:26 cites: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” The anointing of God abides in you. We have been encouraged because we have been sent a helper, namely the Holy Spirit, who will advise and will help us in times of need. The Holy Spirit serves as your gatekeeper and should be your guide in all the truths Christ reveals to your heart.

We have already been forewarned about the existence of evil in the world that will try to deceive us as shown in the Bible verses below:

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:9)

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

In a relatively peaceful nation such as this, many would not see themselves in battle because it happens ever so subtly. Most of us feel safe and secure. There are many con artists in the world who will try their best to deceive us. Therefore, we need to be alert at all times, to stay close to the Word of God, and to the leading of the Holy Spirit so that we are not deceived. In this case, it is also important to be aware of where your loyalty lies. If you are going to church yet your loyalty lies elsewhere such as to man, to money, or to a movement, then God will not be impressed. God is looking for those who are chasing after His heart, who love Him, and is loyal to Him in all that they do.

The Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:17)

I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2:26-27)

Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

In order to not be deceived, affirm God’s goodness in times of trial and tribulation.

Affirm and fill yourself in the Word of God.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)

Through all this, remember that it is very important that you avoid spiritual deception by affirming God’s sovereignty and goodness. Resist satan by holding the Word of God close to you, which has been given to us as a map to our path of life in this world. Remember that God has saved you for His purpose and will care for you through every trial. God wants you to live for something more than yourself, He wants you to live for Him, and to sow more seeds in this world that many more people will know about His glory, His mercy, and His love. Affirm yourself daily in His Word and live purposefully!

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 50:20)

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is (Romans 8: 28-36)

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (John 15:16)

Fresh as the Morning, as sure as the Sunrise

When I was a child, I caught malaria. I recalled that I had a very high fever. And very strangely, I would be asking for the blankets to cover me for one moment as I was shivering and then pulling them off as quickly as I had them on because I was hot and sweltering! This phenomenon is caused by the attack of the malarial parasite on our red blood cells, causing them to break up. The variation of the number of the erythrocytes in the person with malaria causes the highs and lows of the body temperature of a victim. It was a very scary and nightmarish experience; I felt so sick and helpless that I continuously cried for someone to come to me. And I would always see my caring mother there beside me whenever I woke up. She would gently put her hand on my forehead and her soothing and familiar voice comforted me.

As children, we depended and needed our parents so much, and they gave us this love without us even asking for it. Similarly as adults, although we have our independence, our intrinsic feeling of wanting to be loved still remains. I believe that we now get this lasting love from our Heavenly Father. In the Book of Lamentations of the Bible, we read this in chapter 3:22–23:

“The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continues, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise..”

This is an incredible verse that talks about the love of God with so much meaning in a matter of just 17 words! It expresses the parental love of God for all His creation so succinctly. It talks about:

Ref: wordpress

Ref: wordpress

THE LORD’S UNFAILING LOVE AND MERCY

When something is unfailing, it means that it always happens without fail; it is always reliable, always dependable, and something that we can be absolutely sure of.

What follows the word unfailing is His love. Thus we can be 100 percent sure that we receive His ever present and everlasting love for us like the same love we experienced from our parents. Our parents do not owe us their love, nor are they obligated to love us, but they naturally do so because we are their flesh and blood. The good Lord is our Heavenly Creator and He has always loved everyone unconditionally simply because He made us. He is loving and also merciful. To be merciful means to be full of protection, care, and concern. In a sentence, this verse means that we, His beloved creation, can always believe and live our daily lives confidently depending on the truth of His eternal love, care, and protection.

STILL CONTINUES

This means that He has previously loved us (i.e. from the day we are formed in our mother’s womb) and we now have the assurance that His Love is still continuing all through our (adult) lives. It is ongoing.

FRESH AS THE MORNING

What is the love of God for us? How important is this love to us? The exhilarating experience as we awake and step out into the misty morning to take a few deep breaths of the fresh cool air – that’s about the closest comparison of the nature of God’s continuing love for us, fresh as the early morning.

Ref: newhdwallpapers

Ref: newhdwallpapers

AS SURE AS THE SUNRISE

How can we be sure that it does continue throughout our life? What is more certain throughout history than the daily rising of the sun? The world around us functions and plans as usual everyday – taking for granted that the sun will be certain to rise and always assuming that we will definitely be having another new day.

Men Alive at DUMC: Discipling Believers into Mature Men of God

Psalm 127:3-5 reminds us of the treasure that comes from the children that God has blessed us with. This particular psalm expressly tells us that children that are brought up in the Lord are like arrows in a master archer’s hands. They have the power to extend the Kingdom of God far beyond anything we may think of, act as stalwart defenders of the work and word of God, and become the pride of God’s army.

This is the reward that comes from responsible stewardship of God’s blessing, and the heart cannot express the joy and level of tranquility when a man and his family are within God’s approval and blessing. Being a father, natural or spiritual, is an important responsibility. So is being a husband.

Where do we start to begin the journey to be better husbands and fathers? We start with ourselves as authentic men! We need to learn to be the kind of men that God wants us to be. Learning to be all these do not come through a single event but a process over time.

About Men Alive

header-men_alive

To answer this need, Men Alive, the men’s ministry at DUMC, was formed to provide a platform through talks, small groups (MAG -Mentoring and Accountability Group) and retreats; a safe place where powerful learning opportunities are available for ALL men, single or married.

Specifically, Men Alive meet one Saturday per month, sessions where men gather together to learn from spiritual leaders, commune to share advice from personal lessons in life or discuss issues with a group of friends, encourage one another, and pray together in unity.

Brother Keong, the coordinator of Men Alive DUMC.

Their first session for the year was held on the 17th of January 2015.  Before Pastor Chris Kam shared the word, Brother Keong, the coordinator of the ministry communicated about its heart for the MOSAIC Generation, those that are from 18-35 years old. He imparted that the Church’s near-future will largely depend on the composition of this generation that still remains faithful to God, and that the Church needs to follow-up and disciple this group of people. The young adults shared that their generation are looking for churches that are relevant, real, and relational.

The Three Ps That Make a Man of God

Pastor Chris Kam shared that there are 3 Ps that make a guy a mature man of God:

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Fellowship at Men Alive DUMC.

  1. Perspective

Developing an eternal perspective mean placing our foundation in Christ and taking care of our walk with God. We need to be careful about how we build our lives. Develop a culture of accountability and establish guard rails/barriers to areas that we shouldn’t cross.

1 Corinthians 3:10-15 teaches us about God’s system of reward. God takes note of what we do on earth, which mean that what we do matters. The parable of the 5 talents (Matthew 25:14-30) teaches us that God’s reward system is not based on the amount of thing we do, but on our faithfulness. As men, this particularly applies to the people God has blessed us with; parent to children, husband to wife. We must always recognize what God has given to us and that families are both a responsibility as well as a blessing.

SAM_4398

Pastor Chris Kam.

  1. Priorities

There are 4 categories of things in life; 1. Important and Urgent, 2. Important but Not Urgent, 3. Not Important but Urgent, 4. Not Important and Not Urgent. Mature men know how to differentiate between what is important and urgent.

Pastor Chris Kam shared about the 5% Principle; that is, the 5% that matters. 85% of everything we do in life, anybody can do them. These come automatically and we do not have to pay attention to them. Some examples of these are television, having a good meal, sleeping, and so on. 10% of everything, someone with the same training can do them. These include technical work and jobs requiring degrees.

However, there is another 5% in our life that nobody can do except us and that’s where healthy men are different from the others. For example, no one else can take over roles of husbands to wives. The roles are unique to them and it is their responsibility to take good care of their families. Good husbands and fathers know how to invest in the emotional bank accounts of their family.

No one else can keep ourselves spiritually fit; that can only come from a personal walk with God. That goes as well for being physically fit and setting the proper pace in life and taking time to enjoy life (resting in God; the meaning of Sabbath). Setting proper priorities makes the difference between lives.

  1. Patterns

Pastor Chris Kam also shared that setting patterns for the things we do will also shape either good, godly, spiritual lives or empty ones. He explained that studies have shown that our brains have a knack of adapting our regular activities into habits. This frees up our minds for other things. By setting a pattern for our spiritual lives, our devotional life will slowly become more effortless and increasingly natural to us. Good habits set us in front of others, bad habits sets us back, and many successful men have the wisdom to follow good patterns of life through.

Men Alive meet one Saturday every month. The next sessions are as follows:
